Effective April 1st, 2023, our mother company, NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD., the world-renowned ignition, sensor, and technical ceramics specialist, has changed its English language company name to Niterra Co., Ltd.
The Group’s new English company name – Niterra – is a coined word, which combines the Latin words “niteo” meaning “shine” and “terra/earth”. It expresses the Group’s desire to be a company that not only contributes to a sustainable society, but also one that makes the earth shine.
Niterra will focus on the successful portfolio transformation towards environmentally sustainable business fields. These are Mobility, Medical, Environment & Energy, and Communications.
The three Venture Labs locations (the Venture Lab Tokyo, Japan, the Venture Lab Silicon Valley, US and the Venture Lab Berlin, Germany) will act as hubs for open innovation, developing solutions and services that use technologies to resolve social issues while contributing to a sustainable society. The ultimate goal is to provide solutions to better the quality of life in the world, while making the most of each location’s unique characteristics.
